Czech Food
On this page you’ll find some great Czech Republic recipes and general information on the food that can be found in the Czech Republic. Generally Czech food is very hearty so if you’re worried about your waste line you might not want to go any further. Just kidding!!
Usually the Czechs start of their meal with a rich soup such as beef soup with liver dumplings or sauerkraut soup. This is followed by the main course which is usually a dish made from either chicken, pork or sometimes beef. These meat dishes are often served with a sauce and most likely a potato dish such as: mashed potatoes, boiled potatoes, French fries or potato salad. Occasionally you’ll be served rice or various forms of dumplings.
For dessert most of the plates will look very similar to what you are use to. Apple strudel is common and so are crepes. The desserts are often very rich and sweet.
My favorite part of a meal in the Czech Republic is ordering a beer. The Czechs consume more beer per capita than anyone else on the planet. The country is the home of Pilsner beer which is the world’s most popular type of beer. I have to say that it’s quite delicious!
While in the Czech Republic sit back and enjoy a great meal and a terrific beer on your European vacation.
Here are some Czech Republic recipes:
The national meal of the Czech Republic is a Roast of Pork (Vepøová Peèenì). This recipe is very simple and it will have everyone at the table coming back for more.
Ingredients:
Pork roast, any sizeSalt or Garlic saltOnionWater
The secret to this recipe is the water which will help cook the roast.
Begin by placing the roast in a pan that can be covered. Sprinkle either type of salt on the pork and place onions all around the outside of the roast. Pour the water into the pan and cover.
Place the roast into an oven that has been preheated to 325 degrees. The time in the oven depends on the size of the roast (it will take about 25-30 minutes per pound). If you want nice gravy turn up the heat for the last 20 minutes of cooking time (400 degrees). This will help brown the roast and the drippings.
To make the gravy add a little bit of flower to the drippings until it thickens and add some of the vegetable water from whatever your side dish may be. Bring it to a boil until it thickens and serve with the roast. Enjoy!!
