12 years ago I made my first trip to the Heineken brewery Amsterdam. Back then they had a free tour of the brewery which ended with a couple of hours of drinking in the breweries pub. The tour became so popular that today they charge 16 euros to get in but I have to say it's still worth it. Heineken is one of the worlds best beers especially when it is fresh. Like most of the beer in Europe it has a different taste and you can guarantee no hangover.

Be prepared to get there early before the line forms. You can check below for tour times and opening hours. For me the highlight of the tour has to to be the beer at the end but more importantly it is a great opportunity to meet other travelers and if you're single it's a great way to meet someone who might join you on your European vacation
Although the Heineken brewery Amsterdam is not even close to being the oldest in the world it still has plenty of charm. The tour is great way to learn the beer making process. Remember the Netherlands is a beer country and Heineken signs are everywhere in the country.
One of the neatest features they offer is called the " meeting point". If you visit their site online you can choose the date that you'll be visiting and you can see other people that are visiting at the same time. With a smartphone you can get to know people while you're on your visit. If makes it a lot of fun in the pub afterwards.
For more information on Dutch beers I'll be making a page devoted to European beers. As a point of interest one of the other Dutch beers, Amstel, gets its name from the river which runs through the city and gave Amsterdam it's name (Amstel river).
From Centraal Station you can take trams 16, 24 or 25 and from the Leidseplein you can hop on trams 7 or 10.
The canal bus stops right in front of the museum
