The Liedseplein is a fantastic square located in the outer canal area of the city. It is well known for Amsterdam nightlife and some of Amsterdam's best clubs. Historically it was used as a wagon parking lot for farmers. They had to leave their wagons there before entering the city. It is located very close to the museumplein as well as some of Amsterdam's best hotels. The Marriot is within walking distance and so is the American hotel Amsterdam. If your up for some gambling the Holland Casino is also located just around the corner.Untitled Document
At the center of the square there are hundreds of tables set up by the local watering holes and during the day it becomes a center for people watching. At night it comes to life with a more lively crowd looking for some fun. The famous Bulldog cafe is in the heart of the Leidseplein and it's gift shop is a popular place for tourists. The
Canal Bus
stops on the adjacent canal and from the center of the square it is a very enjoyable walk to the city center (30 min).
While in the Liedseplein you'll be entertained by street performers while you sip on a
Heineken
at one of the cafe's. Watch out for the street cars. The liedsplein is bisected by a line and just make sure you look before you cross the street or else you will be crushed. Branching out from the Liedseplein you'll find streets with plenty of restaurants and this is usually the area that I find myself dining in while I'm in Amsterdam. There is also a Amsterdam tourist information center located in the square.
