When Rembrandt moved into the house in 1639 he was already an established artist. However, he was unable to pay for the house out right and had to pay in installments. In this same year Rembrandt began painting his most famous piece of work the “Night Watch”. Rembrandt never wanted to pay off the mortgage on his house and was forced into debt. Rembrandt had to declare bankruptcy and ended up spending the rest of his life in a rented house until his death in 1669.
The house officially opened as a museum in 1911. In the beginning the museum contain a large print collection that gradually grew as a result of donations and purchases. Recently, they have tried to bring the house back to its original form. Today when you walk into the museum it is almost identical to the way it was when Rembrandt lived there and used it as a studio.
Every day of the week the museum shows visitors how actions were printed in the 17th century. All of the demonstrations are free and take place in Rembrandt's former workshop. Occasionally, experts will show you how paint was made during Rembrandt's time.
The museum is about a 15 min. walk from Central Station or 2 min. by metro. You can also take tram lines 9 and 14 and the stop is the Waterlooplein. You can also take a canal bus that stops at Waterlooplein.
Here's a list of some of Rembrandt's most famous paintings:

The Conspiracy of the Batavians under Julius Civilis
