Rijksmuseum Amsterdam

National Museum of the Netherlands


The Rijksmuseum Amsterdam (National Museum), is the largest museum in the Netherlands . Each year, more than a million people visit the Rijksmuseum and it is well worth the trip. The museum is located in an area known as the Museumplein right on Stadhouderskade Street. The Van Gogh museum is directly behind it. It is easy to walk to or you can take the Canal Bus

The Rijksmuseum Amsterdam is internationally renowned for its collection of masterpieces such as Rembrandt's Night Watch. It's exhibitions are outstanding and it is set up perfectly for the novice visitor and expert alike. It has become a world renowned museum for student research and to educating the general public on the importance of the treasures it houses. Untitled Document

Just a warning, like the Louvre it can be a little bit overwhelming so don't expect to see everything in a few hours. Maybe you just want to see the Night Watch. With close on one million objects the Rijksmuseum is best known for its collection of 17th-century Dutch masters, with twenty Rembrandts and many other highlights of the period, including works by Vermeer, Frans Hals and Jan Steen.

The ticket counter closes at 17:30 (on Fridays at 21:30)

18 and under: free

Groups (of 15 or more): € 8,50

Tours, Audio tours Ticket prices:

Groups of 15 or more pay € 8.50 per person instead of € 10.-.

Directions to the Rijksmuseum Amsterdam

In Amsterdam:

From Central Station: tram 2 or 5 (to Hobbemastraat)

From Zuid/WTC Station: tram 5 (to Hobbemastraat)

From Sloterdijk Station: tram 12 (to Concertgebouw)

From Amstel Station: Metro to Weesperplein, from there tram 6, 7 or 10 (to Spiegelgracht)

From regional bus terminal on Marnixstraat: bus 26, 65, 66 or 170 (or a 10-minute walk)
