This is a list of the top ten attractions in Rome that you have to see if you have added Rome to your European vacation. If for some reason you don't get a chance to see any of the following tourist attractions in Rome you're certainly going to regret it. Can you imagine a trip where you don't go to see the ancient ruins in Rome or spend some time in St Peter's square? I don't think so.

Take the time to add these sights to your itinerary. I realize that there is much more to Rome then the top ten sights that I have listed below but consider it a start. Most of these attractions can be seen even if you have just a short stay in the city.

Alright! Let's take a look at the top ten attractions in Rome.

  1. Vatican Museum - Get there early and be prepared for a line. Once your inside take it all in. The wealth is incredible! The Sistine chapel is awe inspiring and you walk away feeling fulfilled.

  2. Colosseum - Imagine not visiting the Colosseum. Watch "Gladiator" before you go to set the mood. This place is awesome! Once again get there early to avoid long lines. Bring a camera and enjoy.

  3. Roman Forum - The Forum is located just across the street from the Colosseum and gives you a look back at life during the Roman empire. This fascinating walk through the past can be brought to life if you carry a diagram of what it use to look like. Definitely on of the top ten attractions in Rome.

  4. St Peter's Basilica - After you stroll through the Vatican museum you can enter St Peter's and take in al it has to offer. The place is immense. Make sure you make it downstairs to the tombs of the Popes.

  5. Pantheon - The oldest building in Rome is worth a visit. It's hard to believe that it has stayed in tact all of these years.

  6. Trevi fountain - If you ever want to return to rome make sure you stop at the Fountain. Throw in a coin and make a wish and one day you'll return. This is one of the most crowded tourist attractions in Rome.

  7. Spanish Steps - Looking for a little romance? spend some time on the steps and just people watch. It's a popular place to hang out in the evening. You might even catch a wedding or two.

  8. Walking tour of the ruins in Rome - Roman ruins are everywhere so plan out a decent walking tour and see what the city has to offer. The ruins in rome are the best anywhere that's why they are on my top ten attractions in Rome.

  9. Piazza Navona - This use to be the center for Roman chariot races but today it's a vibrant square. Catch the street performers and artists while you have a bit of lunch and a glass of wine.

  10. Villa Borghese - Sometimes you need a break from the city and a park is just the ticket. Take a walk through Rome's main park for a relaxing alternative to all the tourist attraction in Rome. If you want stop off at the art gallery and take in some culture.
