Here's my list of the top ten museums in Europe. I put to together this list to help people out while they plan their European vacation. The European museums listed are those which I feel are must see attractions. They're on the list for a number of reasons but mainly because they are entertaining.
I realize that a list like this depends on the individual. The one thing that I know for sure is that if you visit any of these European museums you won't be disappointed. So let's take a look at my list of the top ten museums in Europe.
-
Vatican Museum (Vatican City) - The Vatican museum has to be #1 on anyone's list whether or not you are religious. The amount of wealth is overwhelming and it really makes you think. also, you'll be in awe when you first see the Sistine chapel and look at Michelangelo's masterpiece. Make sure you line up early, the line can go for km's.
-
Concentration Camps (Germany) - At some point you have to visit a concentration camp either in Germany or Eastern Europe. Each camp is different but you are left with this feeling that's hard to explain. It can be emotionally overwhelming so be prepared. For this reason I have put all of the camps on my list of the top ten museums in Europe.
-
British Museum (London) - This free museum provides the visitor with an incredible look back into the past and the exploits of the British Empire. From the Rosetta stone to Lindow Man it's definitely worth the trip.
-
Deutsche's Museum (Munich) - If you love science and technology then get ready to be blown away. This is a terrific museum. It may be the best but I realize it doesn't suit everyone's taste. Great for the family and great fun. You could spend a few days with all the interactive displays. Great for the family.
-
Imperial War Museum (London) - Arguably the best war museum in the world. This free museum has a wonderful selection of war materials. The holocaust section is terrific and the as is the covert operations area. Worth the visit.
-
Pergamonmuseum (Berlin) - Berlin's grand museum has some great Greek and Roman artifacts. The museum is immense and has full size temples inside.
-
Cabinet War Rooms (London) - If you really want to know what World War II was like you have to visit Churchill's war time offices. It's like a trip back in time and the Audio tour is one of the best.
-
Galleria Dell'Accademia (Florence) - It's on the list of top ten museums in Europe because you have to see Michelangelo's "David".
-
Louvre (Paris) - Art museums are not my favorite so the Louvre is low on the list. However, you have to visit the greatest art museum in the world and besides Mona Lisa would be very disappointed.
- Normandy D-Day beaches (France) - Try and make a trip to Normandy on your European vacation. Although the beaches are not a museum per say there are museums scattered along the coast which pay tribute to the biggest endeavor man has ever attempted. You'll certainly leave fulfilled.
