The Westerkerk is a landmark in Amsterdam. The church opened in 1631 and although there are other churches in the city that are older this church is one of the largest. The tower can be seen from most vantage points in Amsterdam.

The church is famous for being the burial place of Rembrandt, however, his actual burial place is unknown. There is a plaque located in the north end of the church, which mentions Rembrandts burial. The church is also a short distance from Anne Frank house. Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands was also married Westerkerk.
The church was built in the Dutch Renaissance style. The tower is 85 m high and contains a bell that weighs over 7000 kg. It also contains a carillon that has over 50 bells. Every Tuesday, for one hour, the carrillon is played.
As I've mentioned before, many of the churches in Amsterdam contains impressive organs. In the Weterkerk the organ was first used in 1686 and it was enlarged in 1727. Many concerts are held at the church throughout the year.
The church is used every Sunday for worship and he belongs to the Dutch Protestant church in Amsterdam.
